bio difficulty

Did anyone else find it very challenging to write a biography of someone else based on their autobiography?

I found it very difficult to make decisions about what was important, what could be left out, what was to personal, etc.

  1. I think it was beneficial to learn about others in AWP, but it is disheartening to know that I may have omitted a fact that my partner may have believed was most important in her life and really wanted me to share it. It is difficult to make decisions for others. . .similar to how we behave in class as teachers---some give more teacher led direction than others.

  2. Absolutely! I'm sure glad I was able to discuss things with my partner. How difficult it must be to write about someone who is gone.

  3. I felt it was challenging in that Angel and I were so engrossed in conversation, we ran out of time and ended up coming in closer to 4pm to do our blogs. I feel that anything we may have left out will continue to real itself to us.

  4. I think that being given time to collaborate was extremely helpful. It was worrisome to me that I would offend my partner by omitting some of their personal information, too. I think that we understood that getting another person's perspective on what we'd already written about ourselves allowed us to see if we were saying what we meant to say about our lives. Regardless, that's why there's a biography and an autobiography, the only person who can accurately tell our stories is us. A biography tells about a person, but an autobiography tells who a person is on the inside as well.
