Tests

I have tentatively decided to not give tests next year in at least one of my classes.  Student grades will be based completely on written works, presentations, journals, etc.
I may change my mind when I get my course load assigned.

  1. I usually focus on journals, product pieces, and portfolios for all of my classes, and my colleagues are disgusted by it. Only a test can prove knowledge, you know...

  2. We are commanded to have finals...I turn in a "test" that has all the elements of "tests"--has to model OGT format. I don't always use that test. Shhh! don't tell.

  3. Boy, you are braver than I am! The school board adopted a district-wide grading policy that is being strictly monitored-it really bites! I can't say that I will omit tests altogether, but I do believe that I'll adjust some of my grading practices especially when it comes to writing assignments, which is a relief to me because I am so sick of all the grading I do. I'll take a shortcut any day.

  4. The freedom of no tests would be invigorating. Our district has adopted mini-tests in addition to the end of grading period tests to prepare students for the Achievement Test oops Achievement Assessment. The name change doesn't change the fact that it is a TEST.
