Language choices that make me cringe are word choices used by students that make the students seem as if they have low self-esteem or no self-respect (sometimes students do not recognize privacy boundaries). I have two great examples for this:
"I have to go pee." OR "I have my period!"
If you need to leave the class, we don't need to know why...except the teacher really does need to know where the kid is going. I give 4 passes on the first day of each month. I figure once a week is enough. If they have any left over when the next month comes around they can turn in for bonus points--1 for each pass left. Some kids never use them and never turn them in either.
